Jaqueta Goodman Brock married Ted Payne. This is his Mother's family line.
Descendants of Jacob Grieb

Generation No. 1

JACOB GRIEB
was born in Germany, and died 1801 in Pennsylvania.  He married ELIZABETH ULRICH.

Notes for JACOB GRIEB:
Jacob Grieb lived in Germany near the sea. According to oral tradition, Jacob, a cooper by trade, may have killed a college student who slipped into his shop through a narrow opening. As a cooper, he had a long, heavy knife with a cord attached. He usually threw this knife into whichever pole he wanted for making hoops and pulled it to him. He threw his knife and may have killed a student.

The ship, Brigantine Richard and Elizabeth was sailing for America and he slipped aboard unnoticed until the ship was at sea. He arrived in America on September 28, 1733, at the age of 21. Jacob married a German woman, Elizabeth Ulrich and had a family. It is likely that Jacob heard the preaching of the Dunkers who stressed "Thou Shall Not Kill". Perhaps his conscience troubled him and he sought pardon by entering the church.

In 1765, Jacob and his family joined the settlement of Dunkards at Franktown, Pennsylvania (seven miles southwest of Altoona, Pa) Jacob had 150 acres in Lancaster Co. Pa. in 1743 and by 1776 had 700 acres in Bedford County, Franktown Township, Pa. After the American Revolution the land around Franktown became higher priced. The Dunkards moved to the rich, level woods of Ohio, settling in the Miami Valley , west and north of Dayton, Ohio during 1798-1800. Jacob did not move to Ohio but died in Pennsylvania in 1801. The original will was translated from German into English by L.W. Shultz.

Children of JACOB GRIEB and ELIZABETH ULRICH are:
     i.    JACOB GRIPE, b. 1746, Pennsylvania; d. Abt. 1805, Montgomery County, Ohio.

GG-Grandparents of Annie Oakley
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her name was Phoebe Moses and she was born in Darke County, Ohio in 1860 and she could shoot the head off a running quail when she was twelve years old.
Once, at the invitation of Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, she knocked the ashes off a cigaret he was holding in his mouth.

When she out-shot the great exhibition marksman, Frank Butler, he fell in love with her and they were ideally happy the rest of their long lives.

She could handle a rifle or a six-gun with an artistry unsurpassed by that of any human being before her time or, probably, since. And when she appeared with Sitting Bull and other notables in Colonel Cody's Wild West Show, she thrilled your father and mother -- not as Phoebe Anne Oakley Moses but as "Little Sure Shot," the immortal Annie Oakley.

Annie Oakley, the poor back-country orphan girl who made her way to world-wide fame, was the very spirit of personal independence. That spirit is just as much alive in our generation as it was in hers. It is among the great assets of our people -- and our nation. And it is one very great reason why our country's Savings Bonds are perhaps the finest investment in the world today.
