PETER GOODWIN (ROBERT) was born 1585 in London, England; died 1661 in London, England.  He married SARA HILLARD in 1609 at St Olave, London, Middlesex Co. England.  Daughter of JOHN HILLARD, merchant of London.

PETER GOODWIN of Tower Street, London, England was a salt merchant and shipbuilder with a Coat of Arms in Heralds College, London circa 1633.

Children of PETER GOODWIN and SARA HILLARD are:
      i.  GERTRUDE GOODWIN married (1) JOHN PIGOT before 1639.  He died 1639 in London, England.  She married (2) MAURICE ABBOTT, ESQ. after 1640.
     ii.  SUSANNA GOODWIN married ? STONE.
    iii.  ELIZABETH GOODWIN married JOHN OSBORNE.
    iv.  SARAH GOODWIN married WILLIAM ELWOOD.

JAMES GOODWIN (PETER, ROBERT) was born 1625 in London, England, and died Bef. 06 Jan 1678/79 in York Co, VA. He married (1) RACHEL PORTER, daughter of JOHN PORTER. She was born 1630 in Warwick, England
and died 23 May 1666 in York Co, VA. He married (2) BLANCHE.

Upon the petition of John and Peter Goodwin to this Court for what portion share of their deceased father's estate Doth of Right belong unto them in the hands and possession of their mother-in-law ined Blanche Goodwyn Admistrator. pre (?) ordered that Capt. Thomas Ballard, Capt. Thomas Maintfort and Edward Moss (?) of the said Mrs. Blanche Goowyn.

PETER GOODWIN (JAMES, PETER, ROBERT) was born 1662 in Back Creek, York Co, VA, and died Bef. 20 Mar 1731/32 in York Co, VA8,9. He married REBECCA TIPLADY Bef. 1694 in York Co, VA. daughter of JOHN TIPLADY and RUTH BEALE. She was born 1680.

In the name of God Amen in the Year of our Lord 1631, I Peter Goodwin of York, Hampton Parish in the County of York in Virginia being sound and perfect mind and memory praised by God Revoking all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made do make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in Manner & form following. & and for such Temporal Estate as it hath pleased God in Mercy to bestow Upon me far beyond my Merrits allowing Debts in Right & Conscience which I have to any person and my funeral Expenses being thereout paid I give and Dispose there of as follows. First I lento my Son John four Young Heifers. Item I give and Bequeath Unto my Grandson John Goodwin one Negro boy named Tom, A Negro Girl named Bess born of black Betty if he shall live to the age of Twenty one Years to him and his heirs for ever but if he die before he comes to the Age of Twenty one Years then i give the two negroes above mentioned unto my Grandson Peter Goodwin and to his heirs forever my Will and Desire is that these two Negroes Tom & Bess after the death of my wife rest in the hands of Cozen John Goodwin until my grandson shall come of age. Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Anne Goodwin one Negro man named Cuffie A Negro Woman named Elby A negro Woman named Betty with their Increase to heir their heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Peter Goodwin my land in King William County known by the name Warranuncock Island. I give to my son James Goodwin his lifetime in half the high ground of the same within the swamp that is from the mouse trap path of the coming out of the Swamp Streuss? across to the other Swamp to end of three hunds yards from the Spring up the Swamp with privilege in any of the swamp and low ground for the use of the plantation if himself will live upon it paying to his brother half in the quick receipts. To him the said Peter Goodwin and the Male Heirs of his body lawfully begotten for ever and for want of such I give my land above said Unto my son James Goodwin and to his heirs Male lawfully begotten for ever for want of such. Item I give my land unto my Grandson John Goodwin & to his heirs male of him lawfully begotten for ever and for want of Such I give my land above said Unto my Grandson Peter Goodwin and his Heirs forever. Item I give and Bequeath unto my son Peter Goodwin one Negro man named George a negro boy named Morisa A Negro Woman named Fannah A Negro Girl named Jane to him and his Heirs for ever one feather bed and furniture half my Cattle & hoggs upon Moncuin. Item I give and bequeath Unto my Daughter Rachel Goodwin one Negro man named Boophars one Negro boy named Robin One Negro Woman Sarah one Negro Girl named Judah with their Increase to him & his heirs forever one feather bed & furniture my black horse named black. Item I give and Bequeath Unto my son James Goodwin One Negro man, Jeamy one Negro boy Will One Negro Girle named Easter a Negro Girle Phillis to him and his heirs for ever one feather bed and furniture and half my Cattle and Hoggs on Moncuin and I do make him at Age at my Death to Receive and take the same in Possession. Item I give and bequeath Unto my Grandson Peter Goodwin Funchs little negro Girl named Bess to him and his heirs for ever. item my Will and desire that there Negroes Mullato Tom black Tom Moomoodah Mole Bridge Jack and one Mallatto boy named James Hicks be and Remain in the hands of my dear and loving wife Rebecca Goodwin as lent to her during her natural life and at her death to Dispose of them to my Children as She shall think fitt excepting Such as is hereafter Disposed of in the Will. The boy Jack above named him after the death of my wife I give and bequeath Unto my Daughter Ann Goodwin and to her heirs forever also after the death of my wife I give and bequeath the Negro Girl Bridget above named unto my grandson Jno Goodwin if he lives to the age of Twenty one Years and to his heirs forever but if he died before he comes to the age of Twenty one Years then I give the Negro girl above mentioned named Bridget Unto my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Goodwin and to her heirs for Ever and if my wife before my Grandson John Goodwin shale attain the age of Twenty one Years then the Girle Bridget to remain with hands of my Cozen John Goodwin till my said John Goodwin shall attain the age of Twenty one Years. As for my Cattle Upon this plan for them. I give the half to my loving wife Rebecca Goodwin According to her likeing Johns taken out. I give the other half to be Equally Divided between my daughters Ann Goodwin and Rachel Goodwin. All and Singular the Rest and Residue of my Estate of what quality nature or kind the same may be in Virginia or Elsewhere shall remain in the hands and care of my loving Wife Rebecca Goodwin for her Support and Maintenance. And I do make and appoint my loving wife Rebecca Goodwin my whole & Sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament as witness my hand and Seat as Witness hand & Seal this third day of October. At a Court held for York County March 20th 1731 The last Will and Testament of Peter Goodwin decd was presented in Court by Rebecca Goodwin the Executrix therein named & She making Oath and being proved by the oath of John Wooledge and Mary Wooledge the Witnesses thereto is admitted to record the motion of the Excr Rebecca and her performing what is usual in such cases. Her certificate is granted her for obtaining probate thereof in due form.

JOHN GOODWIN  (PETER, JAMES, PETER, ROBERT) was born December 25, 1698 in New Kent, Virginia and died March 22, 1759 in York, Virginia.  He married (1) ANNE.  He married (2) ELIZABETH DOSWELL  about 1731 in York, Virginia.  Daughter of JOHN DOSWELL and ELIZABETH NUTTING.  She was born December 23, 1709 in Charles Parish, York Co, VA and died 1760.

Generation 6

PETER DOSWELL GOODWIN (JOHN, PETER, JAMES, PETER, ROBERT) was born about 1736 in York, Virginia.  He died April 1799 in Halifax, Virginia.   He married MARTHA who was born about 1750 and died 1810.

Generation 7

JOHN DOSWELL GOODWIN (PETER, JOHN, PETER, JAMES, PETER, ROBERT) was born in York or Hanover, Virginia.  He died about 1817.  Married about 1802 to JANE.

     i.  JANE ANN MARTHA GOODWIN
    ii.  OVERTON PETER GOODWIN married ELIZABETH HOTCHKISS

Generation 8

JANE ANN MARTHA GOODWIN (JOHN, PETER, JOHN, PETER, JAMES, PETER, ROBERT) was born May 10, 1817 in Pittsylvnia, Virginia.  She died September 6, 1883 in Sharp County, Arkansas.   Buried: Place: Rehobeth Cemetery, Moorefield, Arkansas.  She weighed over 300 pounds when she died. She married ELIJAH JAMES December 10, 1836 in St. Franics, Arkansas.  He was born July 7,1816,TN-died age 48 of typhoid, Nov.14, 1862, UNION Army Hospital, St .Louis, Mo.  Buried: Place: Jefferson Barracks Military Cemetery, Saint Louis,
Missouri.  Burial: Grave #445 Section #49 Company C Infantry

Children of JANE GOODWIN and ELIJAH JAMES are:
     i.   CAROLINE VIRGINIA JAMES,, born Jamuary 29, 1839 in Cedar Grove, Independence County, Arkansas. She died at the hands of an enemy, unknown if by accident, in the White River, December 1862.  She married LEWIS ROBERT TURNER November 29,1855, Lawrence Co.  Arkansas.
    ii.  WILLIAM ELIJAH JAMES, born October 29, 1851 in Cedar Grove, Independence County, Arkansas.  He died January 15, 1940.  February 13, 1876 he married  MARTHA E. LEWALLEN, born December 28, 1859 and died February 12, 1940.  
    iii.  OVERTON PETER JAMES
