Big Flat Twp.Page 3, 27 - 27 (Big Flat was in Searcy Co until 1873 then in Stone Co.) . 1880 Searcy Co. Beaver Twp PAGE. 370 86-101 son Jesse (a widow) and Grandson James A. age 2 living with him. They Had 11 children, 7 living. Parents born in Tenn also. He was a farmer and Sabra his wife was keeping house. CENUS,Searcy Co. found on Page 12, Line 5 V. 12, Ed 174. In a book BAXTER CO HISTORY BY FRANCES SHIRAS on the folklore of Searcy Co. Page 67 a story on Big Flat Amos Holt and a Mr. Middleton was listed as owners of the Old water wheel mill situated about 5 miles west of the town on Cedar Creek known as John Rose mill as he acquired and rebuilt it in 1887. It was the only way to get their corn & wheat ground. In Salt Lake, I found that Amos Holt had built the water wheel in 1850. Ref("optimus" page 445). 1890 Tax payer lists Amos at Beaver Creek. Enoch is also at Beaver Creek.CENSUS. A. Holt had no horses, 13 cattle, Value 20, Nest Cattle 2, Val 130, Hogs 10, Value 10.

1910 Census Spring Township Searcy Co. Ark. living with son Wayne & his wife Jennie (listed as Nancy v.) lists Amos & Sabrey as age 86 married 66 years with 11 children 8 living. It lists a 1 under survive of union or confederate army. LeRoy & I visited Silver Hill Cemetery in Marshall, Ark. and took pictures of the tombstones in 1995.
Enoch, Amos and Wayne Holt paid off a mortgage to Baker & Mabrey General Merchandise on Feb 18, 1895. Have copy. They had mortgaged bay horse, calfs and all the cotton and corn they raised in Searcy Co for the year 1895. They had a mortgage every year from Sept 1890, mortgaging cattle and for all the cotton and corn raised.

Found Her first name spelled Sabrey, Sabre, Sabra. It is Mrs A.A. on Tombstone. Went by nickname Sarah. I am not sure which is the correct spelling of her first name.
Married 55 years in 1900. Had 11 children, 7 were living. Both parents born in Alabama according to 1910 census. Found Mrs. A.A. age 96 Died in 1919 Born 1823 in North Ark. Death records. Story by Lida Maze states: Sarah Jane Jones (Holt) was 10 years old when the stars fell in Alabama in 1833. when She was 13 years old she came with her parents to the White River Region in Ark (later called the Ole Cherokee Settlers Village. She migrated from there west to Big Cedar Creek in Searcy Co Ark. She was 22 years old when she married Amos Ammon Holt He was 20 years old. They worked at a Grist-mill and farmed. They had 10 children. Amos lived 88 years and Sarah 96 years. Buried at Silver hill Cemetery 5 miles from Gilbert on the Buffalo River. Sarah Jane was Cherokee Indian & German. Amos's mother was German, his Father may have been Indian or part Indian. My mother knew little about her fathers side

These two have been switched. in the census. In 1860 his birth place is listed as TN. his brothers are listed as Ark starting in 1856., Searcy Co Ark House # 27. Found him in the Federal Census in 1870 Searcy Co. Ark with Ames Holt . William S is age 19, listed as born in Ark. Parents of Ames Born in Tenn. Sabre's born in Al. In 1880 Ark CENUS he was in Searcy Co. Beaver Township on Sheet 15 Line 32 Vol 12, Ed 174. Had 3 children. Patent Land grant of Homestead Property recorded Sept. 1, 1899 on Book B. page 168 of Searcy Ark. book Sec 28, Twp 15, Range 16. In 1900 Census he was listed as age 29 he was in Spring Township in Searcy. Listed 9 children, 8 living. Married 29 years. Born in Tenn. FARM schedule 130. He owned land, cattle, pigs and a wagon. A. B. Holt (nephew) said one of his sisters married a Middleton.

Nancy age 56 married 38 years 9 children 8 living. birth place listed as Arkansas. could not read or write. 2 marked under survivor of Union & Confederate Army.& a * out beside it. 1920 census Stone Co, Vol 60 ED 149 Sheet 5, Line 46, Age 77, Farm Schedule 57, House 82-83. King & Lovie & family were living with them. No Death Certificate at Little Rock, Ark. Vital Stat. INTERVIEW WITH OTTO HOLT: He said both Grandpa & Grandma Holt were Indians. Grandpa Holt went down to the creek one day and a log fell across his breast and he came back up the hill and in a few days he died. He said also that his Grandpa lived with his dad King and mother Lovie. Grandpa Holt didn't talk much but he did go with him to gather weeds (herbs) and such, but grandpa wouldn't tell him how to use them.
LeRoy & I walked (waded) the creek at Blanchart Springs Park, Ark to the Teague/Wallis cemetery in June 2001 where according to the paper work filed with the state park service, Wm S. Bud Holt is buried on the hill with a Rock for a Head stone on No Sylamore Creek. There were 75 to 100 graves marked by stones and about 5-10 with actual head stones.
Notes for NANCY JANE WALLACE:
Nancy & Wm S. (Bud )Holt came by covered wagon from Tenn. She was a full blood Cherokee Indian according to family legend. In an obituary given in 1980's by Luke Moody (granddaughter) she is listed as Nancy Brewer but this is incorrect from the census learned her name was in fact Wallace. I was told by Grandma Hill when I was growing up that she (Nancy Wallace) grew up on a reservation. and died when she was 106. She was not this old when she died according to legal records. She listed her birth year as 1847 on the 1900 census. I also found her & her parents in the 1860 census in Big Flat, Searcy Ark. Page 271/849. House # 169-161.
IN AN INTERVIEW WITH OTTO HOLT JUNE 1995: He said that Grandma Holt was the best Indian Doctor around. That she would go out into the woods and gather weeds and tie the weeds on to a person to heal them or boil the weeds into a medicine. She is buried in the Stevens Cemetery down the road from 56, Ark. Stone Co. 1 1/2 miles left hand side of road. Sign on left hand sign arrow cut in sign. An Article in the Baxter Co. Bulletin November 19, 1943, under Big Flat news, lists her as 99 years 6 months at death. She died at son King Holt's home and was buried in Stevens Cemetery at 56 in Stone Co. She was the oldest living person in that part of the county at that time.

I have in my possession a copy of her marriage license. married by Jacob Tarwarter.

Found her in the 1900 census living at home with her husband Charles Goodman and daughter Susan born 1898. Married in 1898. Searcy Co. Spring Township in the 1880 Searcy Co. Census Beaver Twp Page 472A House 128. Rhina was still living in 1974 as was Melissa her sister. She was not shown on the 1900 census. Found her marriage license in Book B of Searcy Co. I have in my possession a copy of her marriage license. married by Jacob Tarwarter.
Corresponded with her granddaughter in 1995 and got her death date and the fact that Charles Goodman and Charles Wood were the same man. Vanessa Woods Turner P. O. Box 734 Tuckerman Ark 9-11-95.
Lived in Tuckerman in 1957 when Jane died
